Do not wait for a routine appointment if a wound is rapidly worsening or has spreading redness, increasing warmth or swelling, pus, fever or severe pain. Seek urgent medical assessment. A suddenly cold, numb or discolored foot also needs urgent evaluation. Pain alone is not a reliable measure of severity when sensation is reduced.
