Venous Ulcers

Overview:

Venous ulcers on the lower leg, near the ankles and feet, occur due to poor blood flow in the veins. This condition leads to blood pooling in the lower extremities, causing skin breakdown and ulcer formation around the foot and ankle.

Treatment:

  • Compression Therapy: Bandages or specialized stockings are used to improve blood circulation to the feet and lower legs.
  • Elevating the Foot: Keeping the legs elevated can help reduce swelling and improve blood flow.
  • Wound Care: Specialized dressings are applied to keep the foot ulcer clean and encourage healing.
  • Surgical Options: Vein surgeries may be considered to enhance blood flow if other methods are ineffective.

Focus: Improve venous return from the foot, heal the ulcer, and prevent recurrence.
