Heel pain, a very common ailment, can become extremely painful if not properly treated and cared for. Overusing or injuring the heel may cause heel pain. Without care, the affected area could worsen, limiting mobility and making everyday activities like walking difficult. Heel pain has many potential causes, including strains, sprains, tarsal tunnel syndrome, stress fractures, Achilles tendonitis, and heel bursitis. One frequent cause in children and teens is Sever’s disease, which can develop from overuse or repetitive stress on the heel bone’s growth plates, often seen in youth athletes.
Other potential causes are poor circulation, improper walking/running posture, soft tissue masses, and Achilles tendon ruptures. Rest, icing the area, and properly fitted shoes can help ease discomfort. Custom orthotics or inserts may also be prescribed for added support and pain relief. If you, your child, or someone you know has heel pain, we can help provide treatment. Call 562-399-5252 to make an appointment.
